Tennessee Volunteers Win College World Series Championship

Vols Beat Texas AM 6-5 in Game 3 to Claim Title

Knoxville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Volunteers are the 2024 College World Series champions after defeating Texas AM 6-5 in a thrilling Game 3 on Monday night.

The Vols rallied from a 5-2 deficit to win their first national championship in program history. Tennessee tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two-run single by Luc Lipcius, then won it in the bottom of the ninth on a walk-off single by Evan Russell.

Tennessee's victory was the culmination of a remarkable season that saw the Vols go 60-10 and earn the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Vols won their first two games of the CWS before losing to Texas AM in Game 2. However, they rallied to win Game 3 and force a winner-take-all Game 4.

In Game 4, Tennessee jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held on for the victory. The Vols' pitching staff was dominant, allowing just one run on five hits over the final seven innings.

Tennessee's victory is a major triumph for the program and for the state of Tennessee. The Vols are the first team from the state to win a College World Series title since Vanderbilt in 2014.
